Photo Shoot

This weekend we went back to Arkansas to be part of some very special friends’ wedding.  I got one great shot of the kids together.  I was so excited because it just turned out so good.  I can’t wait to have it made into a large picture and framed.

Today, a friend and I took our kids downtown to do a little photo shoot of the kids.  It really was just too sunny of a day to do this.  But I did get a few good shots without too much shadow.  And, most of them looked really nice once I turned them into black and white.  Here’s a few of my favorites from today.

Mother’s Day Gift

I am so excited about the mother’s day gift I made/bought for my mom this year.  I hope I can wait 2 more days to give it to her.  It’s one of those gifts that as soon as it’s done you want to give it to the person right then.  This was my first time trying to make charms for a charm bracelet, and I will do a few things different next time.  But overall I think they turned out really good.  A friend took the photo tiles that I made and turned them into charms by adding the jewelry part to them.  Then I found a great bracelet (on clearance) to put them on.  Here’s a few photos of the process…and the finished item.  Don’t worry.  My mom won’t see this post…cause she doesn’t even have a computer.  So, we’re safe.

Days Gone By

I’m not sure if anyone really reads my blog anymore.  It’s my own fault though….I just never seem to have time to sit and write and update.  This winter and spring my creative juices came back and I have made some things.  But taking the time to sit and write and post pictures has been another story.  So, for Ms. Carol…who I think still checks my blog…this is really for you.  100_6280Here’s a pillowcase dress I recently made for Grace.  They are really easy and quick to make.  Plus you can create a lot of different looks with different fabric patterns and designs.  This dress we will forever refer to as “the number 7 dress” because she wanted the number 7 on the front of it.  I think it’s kind of cute that way.  I’m hoping to make a few more this week.  Grace has already told me what fabric she wants to use…

100_6253These t-shirts we made recently with a friend.  Of course, the mom and I actually did all the work.  The girls just came and told us if they liked them or not.  It was fun trying to think of things to design.  These are our “celebrate spring” shirts.  Cause we are so ready for some nice spring weather!  And yes, occasionally Grace’s hair gets brushed!  I’ll try to post some other things I’ve been working on soon.

Spoiler Alert!

If you think you are getting a Christmas gift from me, you will probably not want to view this picture!  But I had to give you all a little peek at what my desk looks like this time of year.  I have been painting 20 sets of coasters for a craft fair, plus some trivets and other items!  It’s nice to work at my desk though and look at our tree and the lights…I’m already in the spirit.

Fall 2008

It’s been a great October!  I think we’ve managed to squeeze everything in to this month…except carving pumpkins.  We just couldn’t get that done.  But we went to Gatlinburg, to a pumpkin patch, and an apple farm, went trick or treating, were in a wedding, and rode the trick or treat train to name a few.  Here’s a few pictures from our exciting month.

Grace’s knitted hat

Well, here it is.  I grabbed this picture tonight after Grace got home from a little “carnival” thing with a friend.  So, the face painting is just an added plus for the hat.  I want to get a picture soon of Grace and Sam together wearing them.  I’ve started one for me, but ran out of yarn and ran out of time to get to Hobby Lobby yesterday to get more.  So, hopefully I can get there next week sometime.  I love the flowers!  I found this “how to crochet a flower” online and they were really pretty easy to make.  Since I am not much on knowing how to crochet, the tutorial was really good.  You can find it here.  Try making some.  They crochet up really fast after you make one or two.

Sam’s knitted hat

I just finished this hat for Sam. I think he looks quite handsome. I’ll try to post a picture of Grace wearing hers soon. Just haven’t gotten one taken yet. Bring on the cold weather!

October 6, 2008

So, it’s October.  I love the fall.  I wish the fall still had the cool breezy days like when I was growing up in Kentucky back in the 1980’s…but I still love the fall.  Rob and I did a little searching to see what average temps were like here back when I was in elementary school.  On average it was about 7-10 degrees cooler for this time of year.  I guess global warming is real.

Anyway, I have been kind of busy with some new crafts.  I wanted to post a few pictures.  It’s taken me a while to get back to this blog.  I contribute most of that to the fact that I am homeschooling Grace this year and so my days are much more committed now.  (It’s worth it though)  But I still find time to do some fun projects of my own.

Recently, I took Grace on a field trip to Haney’s Apple Orchard in Nancy, KY.  We had a great time getting ready for the trip.  I think we read every book in the library on apples!  We made these apple shirts as a project to wear to the apple farm.  It was a fun easy project.  I did this project with a friend of mine, Kim, who has 3 girls.  I think we had more fun making the shirts than the girls did.  They turned out great and we want to thank Martha Stewart for the inspiration!

Sam didn’t get a shirt.  Maybe he will when we do pumpkins!

Don’t you think Kim and I should go into business?

I also have been making some tile coasters lately.  These were a birthday gift for a friend.  I hope this doesn’t spoil Christmas for anyone:)

Here is a picture of my sidewalk BEFORE I painted it.  I have finished painting the bricks on the top but I haven’t taken pictures to show the finished project yet. Plus, I ran out of yellow paint for the porch and have to go to Lexington to the nearest Home Depot.  So, I hope I get this project done before cold weather sets in.  But this is a little teaser picture for ya.

I’m also knitting hats for all of us!  I have finished Grace and Sam’s and started mine.  I haven’t uploaded those pictures yet, but I’ll try to post them soon.  I forgot how much I love knitting!

Two weeks and counting…

Well, we are all doing so good right now.  As promised I haven’t posted in a while because time has just not been in abundance around our house.  I admit that ever since we got home from the hospital and over being exhausted, we have been on the move constantly.  I feel a little  overwhelmed since school started too.    It seems as though the days pass even faster than before.

Sam has made a full recovery though and is really doing great.  He is eating like never before.  He was always a picky eater before this and didn’t really seem to eat much at all.  But now, it seems as though he is hungry from morning til night and we are doing everything we can to get him fattened back up.  It is working!

I have many projects to work on and think about.  I don’t know when I will get around to that though.  I did get a chance to add a little to my rag rug but it is coming along slowly.  Maybe as fall and winter start to come a little closer here, I will get motivated to get my knitting back out.  We’ll see…

My sweet little Sam is sick

Well, I won’t be posting any new crafts for a little while.  My baby Sam has been very sick and got so dehydrated that the doctor has admitted him to the hospital.  They are taking great care of him though.  The first thing we thought was that he just had a very bad stomach virus, but after some other tests and new symptoms they are moving toward something else.  He is about to go down for more testing now.  We really hope to know more by this evening.
