This is another project that I have just started. I am so excited about it, because it is something I have wanted to make for a couple of years. I saw some very good directions on another blog and then found some other information on DIY’s website. So anyway, I decided to begin last week. Grace’s carpet is just getting so stained that I thought a nice big rug (that can be washed a lot) could cover up the marker, crayon, juice and makeup that I can’t get out of the carpet. I cut my strips of fabric, took a little lesson on how to crochet, and dug out my size Q crochet needle.
Honestly, it has been MUCH easier to make than I thought it would be. I did tear out the first one I started and started over. I have learned a few things in the process of making this. Here’s my notes:
1. It is best to use a cotton, thin fabric that has the print or color on both sides. (I used some curtain fabric in my first one and it was just too heavy and thick and was only printed on one side…didn’t do well)
2. Some websites suggest when attaching a new strip to just tie them together. I tried that in the beginning and knots were forming all throughout the rug. So, when I took my first one apart, I started sewing the strips together. It’s more time consuming but the rug lays flatter and just looks better.
3. Cut the fabric strips, don’t rip them. There will be too many loose threads in the rug.
Anyway, it’s coming along. Since I took these pictures it has grown by another couple of inches as least. I am very proud of it. And I will post more pictures when I get it all complete.

This is so cute!! Love the color choices. I have been wanting to make one for my kitchen in red and white so this may have been the kick in the pants that I needed.
Thanks for sharing.

I have a bunch of fabric remnants that I want to use to make a big rug for the baby’s room!
Maybe now I’ll be motivated to actually do it!
